Virgin America teamed up with Twitter for a good cause yesterday. The California-based airline on a mission to make flying good again, is launching a "Fly Forward, Give Back" flash fare sale (#FlyFwdGiveBack).

In the United States, the airline currently serves Boston, Chicago, Dallas, Fort Lauderdale, Los Angeles, Las Vegas, New York, Orlando, San Diego, San Francisco, and Washington D.C. Las Vegas-based TourGuy.com encouraged people planning travel to Las Vegas to consider the airline.

"The campaign gave travelers an opportunity to save on bookings, raise awareness for cancer research, and fund the Stand Up To Cancer initiative," said James Hoke, president of TourGuy.com. "This gives people an opportunity to save money and do good at the same time. I wish more companies would do it."

With sale fares as low as $49, Virgin America donated $5 for each Aug. 10 booking to cancer research. People were encouraged to retweet the deal, including the hashtag #FlyFwdGiveBack. Virgin America is the only airline based in Silicon Valley, and its use of technology, social media and design has made it a favorite among local travelers.

Special fares included San Francisco to Las Vegas flights for as low as $49 and New York to Las Vegas for $139. More information about the program can be found at Virgin America.

"We retweeted the special fares and programs because we would like to see more people make travel plans to Las Vegas," said Hoke. "I'm personally a fan of Virgin America, and although there is no incentive for us to do so, we lowered several of our tour prices to help people discover that there is even more to do in Las Vegas than visit the famed Strip. We invite anyone who participated to take advantage of the savings but will honor our listed prices for all travelers too."
