Things To Do For Thanksgiving Las Vegas 2010

Grand Canyon West RimThanksgiving is one of America's best ideas. It represents our nation's first feast to celebrate the bounty of America and the rich heritage and communal culture of Native Americans and New England settlers. It also represents our opportunity to express our thankfulness, gratitude, and appreciation for everything around us.

This Thanksgiving, if you are traveling around the Las Vegas area, consider taking time out to express gratitude to the Hualapai, a tribe of Native Americans who live in the mountains of northwestern Arizona. Their vibrant heritage still exists on a 100-mile stretch of land along the West Rim of the Grand Canyon.

The tribal economy is based on tourism, river rafting, cattle ranching, hunting expeditions, and timber cutting, as well as crafting of traditional and modern folk arts. And they have been extremely generous in allowing visitors to share the beauty of this natural wonder they call home.

While there are several adventures that you can take to the West Rim of the Grand Canyon, which is only accessible from the Hualapai Reservation, the Grand Canyon Indian Country “Do it All” provides the most dramatic and exciting adventure you can enjoy from Las Vegas. It also directly benefits the Hualapai people.

HualapaiBeginning at 7 a.m. or 10 a.m., you will be greeted at your hotel by an experienced tour guide and taken to a nearby airport for a short but spectacular flight to the Grand Canyon West Rim. Every seat aboard this executive class airplane has window seats that allow you to see Las Vegas, Lake Mead, and Hoover Dam like never before.

Upon arrival at the Hualapai nation, you will enjoy a dramatic helicopter ride to the base of the Grand Canyon, which is located 400 feet below. At the base, a pontoon riverboat with Hualapai guides will show you their land along the Colorado River and through the West Rim.

The riverboat ride ends with an ascent to the breathtaking Eagle Point, which is now home to the world famous Grand Canyon Skywalk, allowing you to walk out over the Grand Canyon while looking down a glass bottom bridge. Your hosts and the Hualapai will then share a barbecue feast with you as you take in the remarkable sites, sounds, and history of America.
